Hi everyone! I hope you are having a great week so far. Setting many goals for myself this week to help me stay on track so that I can check things off my to-do list! I am much more of a morning person, so that is when I spend my time getting a workout done, and easing my way into the day or week. To me, there is nothing better than starting my day off with a green smoothie!
If you're not a breakfast you should become one because it is the first meal of the day, and the FIRST thing your body responds to! Don't you want to nourish your body and feed it something to help it thrive at its best? The poor thing hasn't had any food for 8+ hours.... it definitely needs some fuel.
Smoothies are great way to get many of the nutrients and greens that you need for a day in just one glass! Filling them with just four things: fiber, greens, protein and healthy fats will keep you feeling full throughout the morning, and even help to curb your cravings for the rest of the day. Your main goal is to avoid adding too much fruit, so that it doesn't spike your blood sugar too high - you need a good balance of nutrients to make it effective. You can even prepare the smoothie the night before, and just blend it all together in the morning to save time for a hectic day. Try out this simple recipe and let me know what you think, this is one of my favorites!
Ingredients:
1 cup almond milk (or other dairy-free milk)
1 tablespoon cacao nibs (Navitas is my favorite brand)
1/3 cup blueberries
cinnamon
1 scoop protein powder (Manitoba Harvest and Nutiva are my favorites!)
1 cup spinach
1 teaspoon chia seeds
Directions:
In a high speed blender (Vitamix or Nutribullet) add in all ingredients and blend until smooth.
Add ice if you want it to be colder.
Top off with more cacao nibs and cinnamon (optional)
Enjoy!
xoxo,
Kell
